The shirt that became a beanie.

"Phew, I'm so happy you don't complain about the mess I create when I'm making stuff" I said to Joost, while looking at the pile of crafting supplies at the dinner table. It looked as if there had been an explosion.  It had been an incredibly productive weekend, but unfortunately, our table was a not so silent witness of my little projects.
"Mwah, don't care" Joost replied. " I'm quite sure you'll clean it up (-NO! HAHA-), and anyway, now you can make me cool stuff, like that beanie you promised me." Beanie? whoops. I had indeed promised that.

hmmm... what to do, what to do?

Then I sighed, balanced my sewing machine on top of the already existing pile of mess, and started.

What I did:

I took an old pullover from my pile of fabric. I choose it because it was grey (and the hus-friend had warned that he wanted "not a colorful hat-thing, please!") and the fabric was stretchy.

I decided that I wanted to make it out of two layers of fabric: because it was nice and warm, and because with two layers, I could hide all the ugly raw edges (haha, I'm sneaky!). Therefore, I folded the shirt over.

I simply placed a fitting beanie on top of it to use as my pattern, and cut around it.

This left me with four hat-shaped panels of fabric, two of which had the original seam of the pullover as a bottom. I simply sewed together the four pieces into two hats, using the zigzag-stitch on my sewing machine ( it stretches). One had raw edges on the bottom, and one had the seam of the pullover as bottom. I turned the one with the raw hem inside out, folded the hem over and pinned in onto the seam of the other hat. I stitched the whole thing together, and called Joost. "Your beanie is ready!" "Nice", Joost said. "my ears are cold"

I even added a little tag! So professional :)

" Can I please take a picture with you of it? It's for the blog" But unfortunately, Joost didn't want to have any of that. "I have my sunday-evening face on, they'll think I look like shit" "No, they won't",  I promised. "You look impeccable, really manly" (he did: the beanie is good like that). But he wouldn't listen.

So I had to snatch the hat right of Joost's head, and pull it over my own scalp in order to show you what it looks like. And now I have some beanie-fitting experience myself I can safely report to you that it is warm and comfy, and only a tiiiny little bit itchy.

cheers!
